FACTORY RECORDS

 

Founded in 1977, the MATTHEWS BOAT OWNERS ASSOCIATION (MBOA) has been "dedicated to the preservation of an endangered species - THE MATTHEWS BOAT". In 1990 the association was fortunate to be the high bidder for the MATTHEWS COMPANY records.

 

Thanks to the late Edna S. Johnson, Secretary, Historian and Editor of the association newsletter until 2012, the paperwork, pictures, brochures and correspondence pertaining to Hull No. 74610WA and countless other boats have been retrieved and copied from the original Matthews Company files. All MBOA members owe a huge debt of gratitude to Edna for her dedication.

 

Included here are correspondences between The Matthews Boat Company of Port Clinton, Ohio and the Gregory Boat Company of Detroit, Michigan. They include the build order, equipment lists and several change orders. Also included is a list of previous owners, who had contacted the Matthews Company when they purchased the boat.

 

Rarely does a classic or vintage boat owner gain access to documents that helps to tell the story of their boat. Thank you, Edna, for making this possible.
